BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc., a GREEN and Sustainable Award-Winning Company, Acquires Lawn Maintenance Company in Dallas

Houston, Texas – On July 13, 2010, BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. (BIO), a Yellowstone Landscape Group company, expanded its Texas presence through the acquisition of Forest Hills Lawn Service, Inc. based in Dallas. Forest Hills Lawn Service, Inc. was established by Bob Ford, in 1975 as a lawn maintenance and landscaping company primarily focused on municipal and governmental accounts including the City of Dallas, the City of Rowlett, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Dallas Public Libraries.

Robert Taylor, President of BIO, commented, “BIO’s geographic footprint in Texas continues to grow rapidly. We felt that the next strategic branch for BIO should be in Northeast Texas. BIO’s maintenance division has been hard at work winning prestigious accounts in the Dallas area, so when we learned of the acquisition opportunity we knew it was a good fit. With the Forest Hills Lawn Service, Inc. acquisition, BIO gains valuable employees, a state of the art facility, and an equipment repair dealership business which allows BIO to bring additional value to customers. Ford will continue to play a significant role as an advisor while preparing for retirement. Craig Duttarer, a BIO employee with over 15 years of landscape industry experience, will become the onsite Dallas Branch Manager.”

Ford commented on the acquisition, “I feel good about the sale. Now I can be a part of a great organization while looking forward to a new stage in my life; more time for family, relaxation, and my other interests. I also look forward to helping BIO build their Dallas branch.”

Duttarer said, “I’m excited to play a part in expanding the BIO brand into North Texas. My focus for the upcoming year will be on strengthening relationships while enhancing customer service in the Dallas market.”

With the acquisition of Forest Hills Lawn Service, Inc., BIO now serves 21 counties with a combined workforce of over 500 professionals throughout Texas. The transaction marks the third addition to BIO over the last year. In October of 2009, BIO acquired Outdoor Environments, LLC; a Houston based commercial landscape maintenance company. In December of 2009, BIO acquired Texas Services, Ltd., a sustainable Tree Care focused lawn maintenance and landscape company in Houston. In May of 2010, BIO officially opened a maintenance branch in Beaumont. BIO operates multiple branches in the state of Texas.

With the arrival of the hurricane season we would like you to know that the staff of BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. plan to be on call for your businesses’ landscaping and tree care emergency needs.

BIO’s emergency hotline number – 281.808.6115 (after business hours)
Arbor Care department – 713.774.6621 (during business hours)

We would also like to provide you with a few hurricane preparedness tips for your facility and staff’s safety. One of the most important protective measures is to properly stake down any trees and shrubs on your grounds that were planted in the last year. This will make them more secure and less likely to be damaged or uprooted. In addition to staking and guying small trees and shrubs, you should inspect larger trees for broken, dead or damaged limbs and ask our team to remove these as soon as possible prior to a storm. Hurricane winds can tear such limbs from trees and turn them into dangerous projectiles. However, remember that it is not a good idea to prune healthy branches before a hurricane, because this encourages new growth, which is very vulnerable to wind damage.

During the storm season, it is especially important to keep roof gutters clear of leaves, twigs, and other debris. Drainage should be at its best to cope with heavy hurricane rains. If you have hanging baskets, tub plants, or large potted plants on exposed porches or patios, they should be moved indoors ahead of the storm. Hurricane winds can damage or completely destroy both exposed plants and containers. Other loose items, which can be hurled about, such as lawn furniture, garden tools, toys, and garbage cans, also should be brought inside before strong winds strike.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have about tree or landscape care prior to pending hurricanes. In fact, if you would email Kellye Dorey, Marketing Director with your company name, email address and fax number we will ensure that you receive any future mass communications as they are sent out this hurricane season.

Sincerely,
Robert Taylor, President

Texas Nursery & Landscape Association (TNLA) awards Houston-based firm for Shangri La Botanical Gardens Project

Houston, Texas – BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. (BIO) today announced that they have been selected as a 2010 Gold winner of the coveted Texas Excellence in Landscaping (TEIL) Award for work completed at the Shangri La Botanical Gardens. BIO competed in the commercial projects category and will be recognized at a formal awards presentation event on August 19, 2010 during the 2010 Nursery/Landscape EXPO in San Antonio.

TEIL awards acknowledge the year’s top achievers in landscape design, installation and maintenance in the State of Texas. The program is designed to recognize independent landscape and lawn care professionals who execute superior projects. A TEIL Grand Platinum Award winner will be selected from the Gold Award winners which will be announced at the formal awards event.

“We’re honored that BIO Landscape & Maintenance has received such a prestigious award. The Shangri La visitor center is the first certified LEED Platinum project in the state of Texas which is a major accomplishment. While under construction, the gardens were severely damaged and flooded by Hurricane Katrina and a tropical storm. After many tireless days of intense reconstruction by the BIO team we’re proud to say the gardens are now award winning,” commented Jon Richardson, BIO’s Vice President of Construction.

The Shangri La Botanical Gardens are the redevelopment of the original concept for a botanical garden by H.J. Lutcher Stark. The gardens and visitor center sit on a 252 acre site in Orange, Texas, adjacent to the Big Thicket. The gardens include over 457 species of plants found in Southeast Texas and southern tier states, in addition to sensory gardens and four sculpture rooms that convey specific design elements. The gardens provide an oasis of serenity and are a testimonial to the dream realized by Mr. Stark and the Stark Foundation.

Photos of BIO’s award-winning work at the Shangri La Botanical Gardens are featured on the BIO Landscape & Maintenance website, www.biolandscape.com/gallery.php and will also be included in a special printed edition of the July/August 2010 issue of TNLA Green magazine.

Jim Sivils, the former majority partner of Texas Services<ins datetime="2010-01-09T11:23" cite="mailto:Robert">,</ins> is the new Strategic Accounts Business Developer for BIO. Sivils commented on the acquisition, “We are excited to join an organization with the same culture and commitment to customer service, safety and employee development. When companies with the same objectives are integrated the opportunities for customer and employee success along with organic growth are a certainty. We<del datetime="2010-01-11T09:59" cite="mailto:Kellye%20Dorey"> </del> are really impressed by the BIO/Yellowstone company structure and relationship, their team focused attitude, how most decisions are left in the operating company hands, the attention to customer needs versus company structure, and the additional benefits offered to Texas Services by becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of BIO. It is safe to say that the future of our company is much brighter and that our customers will continue to be placed first.”

With the addition of Texas Services, BIO now serves 15 counties with a combined workforce of 440 professionals throughout Central and Southeast Texas. The transaction marks the second addition to BIO in 2009. In October of 2009, BIO acquired Outdoor Environments; a Houston based commercial landscape maintenance company.

Houston, Texas – On October 9th, 2009, BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. (BIO), a Yellowstone Landscape Group company, expanded its Texas presence through the acquisition of Outdoor Environments, a commercial landscape maintenance company headquartered in Houston, Texas, serving Harris, Montgomery, and many of the surrounding counties. All members of the Outdoor Environments team have joined the BIO team, expanding resources and expertise for clients throughout Southeast Texas.

Robert Taylor, president of BIO, said, “Outdoor Environments and its principal, Chris Lallier, will quickly become an integral part of the BIO team. Chris worked for BIO some years back, went out on his own, and we welcome him back to share in the vision we have for BIO and Yellowstone. Chris is a very capable manager and will soon be running our North Houston Branch. Chris models the values within our organization in regard to integrity, customer service, and professionalism.”

In April 2008, BIO merged with the Yellowstone Landscape Group, one of the largest full service and environmentally focused landscape providers in the United States.
